magical

this past weekend, i was around a person who said the word "magical" a lot.  it's not a word that you hear a lot in conversation.  but i like it.  in fact, i kind of feel like summer is magical.  at least for me.

M14 Spoilers 7-02

~
Happy Tuesday MTG peeps,

Due to be released in just another two weeks, our Magic 2014 spoiler list now sits at 184 of 249 known (or strongly suspected) cards.  Everyone here at MTG Realm has already found a handful of new cards he / she wants to get a hold of and into a build.  Over at the mothersite, this is day two of the only week of previews which means we'll likely get our pre-orders in to MTG Mint Card sometime next week.

For today, we have for your eyes another fresh batch of Magic: the Gathering goodness, along with our initial feelings - let's go -
~

Witchstalker, 1gg
Creature - Wolf, Rare
Hexproof
Whenever an opponent casts a blue or black spell during your turn, put a +1/+1 counter on Witchstalker.
3/3

Preview from Fracnk Lepore at TCG Player.  This is a bit reminiscent of M10's Great Sable Stag.  We love us some hexproof critters which can upgrade - in this case, with conditional +1/+1 counters.  We're already looking to a standard Bant Echant build with this weird-looking wolf.

~Oath of the Ancient Forest (spelling?), 2g
Enchantment, Rare
Whenever Oath of the Ancient Forest or another enchantment enters the battlefield under your control, you may put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.

This is a preview from the German site MagicBlogs.de - We're starting to think that the next large fall set, Theros, may have a strong enchantment theme.  We are not certain whether there may be a home for this in the current standard constructed environment.  Having said that, we know someone in our casual playgroup will pair this card up with Ajani's Chosen in a green / white enchantment / aura deck.
~
Path of Bravery, 2w
Enchantment, Rare
As long as your life total is greater than or equal to your starting life total, creatures you control get +1/+1.
Whenever one or more creatures you control attack, you gain life equal to the number of attacking creatures.

From the mothersite's card image gallery - Speaking of green / white enchantments, here's another interesting one - Path of Bravery, previewed on the mothersite today.  This looks like a very nice conditional anthem effect with a bonus of some lifegain.  We'll need to carefully consider whether Glorious Anthem / Honor of the Pure would be replaced by this in some of our Soul Sisters / white weenie builds.
~
Door of Destinies, 4
Artifact, Rare
As Door of Destinies enters the battlefield, choose a creature type.
Whenever you cast a spell of the chosen type, put a charge counter on Door of Destinies.
Creatures you control of the chosen type get +1/+1 for each charge counter on Door of Destinies.

Mothersite preview.  We rather enjoyed this card when we were playing in Morningtide and were certainly one of those 'auto-include' cards we had used in our tribal Elf, Kithkin and Merfolk decks.  We're definitely looking forward to the reprint of this card in standard.
~

Lastly, some rather fun cards from the motheriste - Bogbrew Witch, Bubbling Cauldron, Festering Newt.  We suspect these would have been right at home within Innistrad block's theme - and perhaps they were meant to, but Wizards of the Coast just ran out of room.  Anywhoos - we don't think that this trio will win a lot of games but we suspect that there's someone at our local gaming store (OMG! Games) who will still brew a stack of cards with this in it.

A New Client #projectlocal...and a Guest Post

Well hello.

I hope you all had a fab weekend.

Mine was good and long- love a holiday Monday.

The fam and I enjoyed our annual Canada Day festivities yesterday...

...though I felt like 40 bags of crap for most of the day...the mid- day glass of wine I had did not agree with my very sleep deprived body at all.

Anyhoo...twas a fun day...especially since we shared it with our bestie neighbours...

...whose mom is the very talented Hollie...aka The Pink Zipper/Pillotopia { PS, her fabulous pillow shop is having an AMAZING 65% sale right now so that she can clear everything out an make room for newbie stuff so buy, buy, buy my friends}.

And speaking of, I'm actually guest posting over there today as part of her...

...series.

So if you want to find out 25 weird facts about me, click HERE.

In other weekend news, I spent Sunday downtown meeting a fabulous new local client...wohoo!

And let me tell you, I'm beyond inspired by the space/clients I get to work with.

For the home, think vintage mid-century bunglow with giant windows that look out on an absolutely stunning tree canopied lot, herringbone floors, and buckets of charm.

On top the building, there's also a selection of incredible furnishings that were passed on to the family from their grandparents...think giant chunky lucite table, low slung wood framed sofas, silk Persian rugs...you get the idea;)

And as for the clients themeselves, the Mrs had me at hello when she said she wanted something quirky and eclectic...she even mentioned the words "Alice in Woderland" in reference to how she saw the living room shaping up...hooray, hooray, hooray.

So...with all that in mind, I set home and have basically been madly designing ever since.

Using all of their existing pieces that we want to keep, I've come up with this for the living room...

The tufted sofa is new and will stay...the blue is my client's grandmother's sofa that we'll re-upholster in blue velvet...the lucite table and rug are also already hers and duh, we'll be keeping those...aside from that, everything else is new...I really wanted to keep what was there and make the space a little quirky but still sophisticated...this is actually the style of room I love most- totally looks collected over time and although it's elegant, it's got a bit of edge as well.

I'm sooooo hoping she loves because I need this room to happen.

Along with the formal living area, we're also doing some finessing in the family room.

With this space, we're going for a more relaxed/family friendly feel...we'd like to get some built in action happening and will work with my clients pistachio coloured sofa, grey floral rug and white iron sphere chandelier to create this comfortable goodness...

The room is connected on one side to the back of the house, which is lined with a row of 5 windows...we'll have custom romans made...my contractor extraordinaire will take care of the bookcases and the rest is just happy little additions that pull it all together (those KW velvet pillows made an appearance in my last #projectnordic project...just can't get enough of them).

And finally, we've got plans to totally re-do the bedroom and make this sort of thing happen...

So hoping she loves it all...I'm goody goody gumdrops excited about all of it.

i don't know where the days went....but i'm glad to be back here.  i had a little motivation over the break and i'm going to try to be better at making it a point to come here....for my own sake.  b/c i do love it.

Hello, Phoenix!

Whew - what a weekend! We made it to Arizona, exhausted and so happy. The brownstone was packed and our boxes were loaded with about five minutes left to say our goodbyes to the house and take a breath before we had to leave for the airport. We're about 48 hours in and so far, I'm feeling great. Maybe it's easier to close big life chapters without those lingering goodbyes?

We officially closed on the Valley house about 15 minutes ago (HOORAY), so the renovating adventures begin bright and early tomorrow morning! Can't wait.
