Banned Restricted Updates

~
Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

Altough we here at MTG Realm are casual Magic the Gathering players at hear, we still leave the kitchen table to game, so here for your reference are some updates to the banned and restricted lists.

First up - Commander (EDH)
Here is the post to MTGCommander.net from Sheldon Menery, the godfather of EDH along with the reasons for the update to the list for each of the three cards.

Banned As Commander: Kokusho, the Evening Star
Unbanned: Kokusho, the Evening Star
Banned: Primeval Titan & Worldfire

The DCI Banned and restricted List update from the mothersite, effective date October 1, 2012.  Banned and unbanned are fairly simple terms but newer players some may not be familiar with the terms restricted and unrestricted.  Restricted simply means that a player may have only one copy of a particular card in their constructed build rather than the usual four.  In the case of today's announcement, Burning Wish was originally restricted (to one card) in 2004 as it was an inexpensive but powerful tutor spell but now players are allowed the full deckset.

Standard, Extended, Legacy - No changes

Modern - Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle is Unbanned.

Vintage - Burning Wish is Unrestricted.

EDIT (latter addition) - We also wanted to add some notes about changes to tournament rules.

Some changes to the Magic: The Gathering Tournament Rules you may want to take note of.  The tournament rules (found here) which come into effect on 1st October, 2012 are nicely summarised by Tobby Elliot on the DCI Magic Judges blog (found here).
