Theros Flav

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

Magic: the Gathering fans are certainly eating up all the latest Theros spoilers and previews this week.  Our Theros Spoiler List is now up to 89 of 249 cards revealed and is being updated every day.  Today over on the mothersite, Wizards delivered the third and last installment of Planewalker's Guide to Theros with a whopping 51 images and storyline soaking with flavor.  Also, Marshall Sutcliffe covered off a neat five-color cycle of common Nymphs all with the 'Bestow' tech which went rather well with the Guide's 'Non-Human Creatures' of Theros article.  We suggest you definitely check out the mothersite today and also start planning your pre-orders wish list over at MTG Mint Card.  Anwywhoos - here's a little excerpt on Nymphs to give you a taste if Daily MTG happens to be on the wrong side of your academic / corporate firewall (horrible I would imagine) . . .
~
Nymphs are divinely created creatures that inhabit special places, infusing them with the magic of Nyx. Most are benevolent and associated with healing or other life-giving magic, but dark nymphs dwell near the entrances to the Underworld and in places of great sorrow as well. Nymphs were intentionally created by the gods and can act as companions, messengers, guardians, or scouts.

Observant Alseid, Art by Todd Lockwood
Alseid - These white-aligned nymphs inhabit meadows. They protect flocks and are in closer proximity to human civilization than any of the other nymphs.

Nimbus Naid - Art by David Palumbo
Naiad - Blue-aligned nymphs can be found anywhere there is water. They are common in the streams and grottos of the Nistos Forest. Naiad also make their home on isolated beaches and shorelines, although they prefer areas with more cover.

Cavern Lampad - Art by Volkan Baga
Lampad. These rare, black-aligned nymphs are said to help Athreos in guiding the dead to the Underworld. They sometimes bear torches that burn violet.

Spearpoint Oread - Art by Todd Lockwood
Oread. The most aggressive and dangerous nymphs, these red-aligned creatures dwell in remote mouInline image 5ntain crevasses and near volcanoes. Purphoros is fond of their company, and these nymphs also take part in satyr bakkeia—but only the very wildest ones.

Dryad - Art by Todd Lockwood. Nylea has created many green-aligned nymphs, and her followers can be found throughout the Nistos and Skola regions.

Theros Trailer

~
Happy Sunday MTG peeps,

We are continuing to roll with all the amazing Magic: the Gathering cards from Theros being previewed by Wizards of the Coast at PAX Prime being held in Seattle this weekend.  Yesterday afternoon we provided posts on cards being previewed at PAX itself and then followed up with the greatly anticipated Theros Preview Party at the Showbox at the Market.  We gotta say that we here at MTG Realm were kinda breathing heavy seeing some of the very cool cards due to be released on 27 September, 2013 and we can't wait to get our pre-orders into MTG Mint Card and get our game upgraded.

Anywhoos - Wizards has now two vids out -
• The official Theros Trailer which is just off the hook, and
• A vid of Nathan Holt (from Walking the Planes) at that awesome Theros Preview Party last night.

To wrap up - here are some stills from the Theros trailer.  Absolutely wonderful job so far by the Wizards Creative Team and the members who put the trailer together.

Expect another post fairly soon as we update everyone on this afternoon's Theros World Building Panel at PAX.

Theros PW Guide 2

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

Today marks the second of three installments of the Planeswalker's Guide to Theros on the mothersite.  If you are a Magic: the Gathering fan looking for some storyline / flavor from this fall's upcoming set Theros, you gotta get in here - once again, the Magic Creative Team has done a great job in providing a background canvas to this wondrous environment.   Due to be released on 27 September 2013, this large MTG set has an ancient Greek theme full of gods, heroes, and mythological monsters.

With today's second of three installments of 'Planeswalker's Guide to Theros', the MTG creative team provided some brief descriptions of the major poleis or cities of Theros — that of Meletis, Akros and Setessa.  Previously, the guide addressed the Plane of Theros, the land of Nyx, Enchantments, and Gods.  Look for the third and last installment of the PW guide next week which will look at the monsters and non-human inhabitants of Theros.

Anywhoos - let's have a look at some select pieces of amazing art posted today -
~
~
Finally, a note about the new 'Devotion' ability word in Theros, somewhat similar to the old Eventide 'Chroma' ability.  All we can say is you might want to drop over to MTG Mint Card and pick up some Return to Ravnica cards like Boros Reckoner which will help you make the new tech shine.

Theros PW Guide 1

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

Very exciting stuff over on the mothersite today if you are a Magic: the Gathering fan looking for some storyline / flavor from this fall's upcoming set Theros.  Due to be released on 27 September 2013, this large MTG set has an ancient Greek theme full of gods, heroes, and mythological monsters.

With today's first of three installments of 'Planeswalker's Guide to Theros', the MTG creative team provided some brief descriptions of the Plane of Theros, the land of Nyx, Enchantments, and Gods.  The second PW guide is to describe the major poleis or cities of Theros — that of Meletis, Akros and Setessa.  A very intriguing note about how these new 'god' cards may manifest themselves within game play - today's article describes the gods as living enchantments. With today's PW Guide installment, Wizards also provided artwork of possible legendary artifacts associated with each of the five gods of Theros.  Without speculating too much, we might suggest that you not trade away any Artificer's Hex from the Magic 2014 core set - in fact you may just want to pick us some extra singles from MTG Mint Card.

Anywhoos - let's have a look at some of the new Theros arts now . . .
Heliod, white-algined god of the sun with his spear Krushor.

Theros Spoiler

~
Happy Saturday MTG peeps,

This evening post is meant to catch up with all the Theros news and spoilers from PAX Australia and San Diego Comic Con, all compiled in one spot for your convenience.  Theros is the next large Magic: the Gathering set to be release by Wizards of the Coast in late September, 2013.

Here's the summary along with a buffet of amazing new arts you could expect . . .
~
Theros Block
• Greek mythology based.
• Theros is a large set, Born of the Gods is small, Journey into Nyx is small. Classic draft format.
• Theros block has an enchantment theme supported by M14.
• Not just "enchantment matters". Game play needs to part of the set. Found a way to take enchantments and bring gods to life.

• five gods which adhere to the color wheel: Heliod (white), Erebos (black), Nylea is the god of the hunt (green) shown in that order below.

 • Another theme of Theros will be Heroes
• What is the mood and tone of Greek myth? Adventure, achievement, accomplishment. Hero's journey.
• Monsters are another theme. Heroes need something to fight.
• If you like Minotaurs this set is for you.
• Polukranos, Worldeater (Mythic Hydra)
• Three new mechanics. One for the Heroes, Monsters, and Gods. Five total mechanics in Theros. Including something people have been asking for

• Also Gorgons, Hydras
• There will be a handful of gold cards but it is NOT a gold set.
• There is a Future shifted card in Theros.

• Three Planeswalkers; one of which is Elspeth with two new ones.
 • Story: Elspeth doesn't want to be a hero. Elspeth does not believe she will be called on to be a leader in a world of gods. Gods can take multiple forms and walk among mortals.
• Theros is very dangerous land outside of the cities. Elspeth will fight a Hydra which attracts attention of Heliod.

• Gods live in Nyx.  Nyx is the night sky, and also the home of the pantheon of Gods.
• Three major walled cities. Meletis, Akris, Setessa (shown in that order below).

 • Confirmed at the SDCC Panel are God cards for each color with a mechanic also titled God. These cards will have a different border from regular cards.
• Minotaurs are the rampaging savages of Theros.
• Krakens were added because the film "Clash of the Titans" changed the public perception.
• Many existing creature types will be getting reworked to match the Greek flavor.
• No elves on Theros! Green's races will be Centaurs and Satyrs.
• Thassa is the goddess of the sea. Image attached.

Thero PreRelease
• Theros will have pre-release packs, similar to the Return to Ravnica block guild packs! You will pick your color, and receive a pre•release pack of that color.
• Complete the nine quests on the Hero's Path to earn Hero cards to use at Game Day.
• Both "Born of the Gods" and "Journey into Nyx" will feature similar Pre•Release, Release, and Game Day events.
• Prerelease activities: a Hero's Pack for Theros that will continue through whole block.
• Bringing back Prerelease packs.
• Players will get Hero cards in their prerelease packs.
• Hero cards act like a Vanguard.
• The hero cards not have Magic backs and do not go into the deck.
• Quest 1 is Choose a Path.
• Second step is at the Release weekend. Get a second hero card.

RTR Spoiler 9

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

If you've not yet seen these yet, then get ready for some more amazing Return to Ravnica art spoilers 'n' previews spotted at the recent 2012 Magic Players Championship in Seattle.  This invite-only tournament features sixteen Magic the Gathering players from around the world doing battle for the title of 'Player of the Year'.  A first place cash prize of $40,00 is part of the total cash purse totaling over $100,000.

Anywhoos, check out some of these beautiful images thrown up on the screen behind the players during the tournament.  We can only hope that these arts make it onto cards in the upcoming Return to Ravnica set . . .

First up,
This art screams to be a reprint of Ravnica: City of Guilds reprint of the legendary creature Tolsimir Wolfblood on his stead or rather wolf, the 2/2 green and white Wolf creature token named Voja.

Next -
TWO different arts, both strongly suggestive of being an Izzet League Mage.

This red Devil might just be painted by Svetlin Velinov, the same artist which brought you the Dark Ascension Hellrider.

This Elf may be a member of the Golgari swarm as the art is somewhat reminiscent of Savra, Queen of the Golgari.

Next - some exciting stuff.  There may or may not be a reprint or functional reprint (or perhaps something altogether different) of the popular shocklands from Ravnica: City of Guilds.  Here are lovely arts which remind us of Hallowed Fountain, Sacred Fountain and Watery Grave.
