Anywhoos - onto the FAQs . . .

~
Cycle: Guildgates
The Return to Ravnica set introduces a new land subtype: Gate. Each guild has a Gate card with Guildgate in its name that taps for mana of either of that guild’s colors.  Gate is not a basic land type.

~
Cycle: Keyrunes
Each guild has a Keyrune, an artifact that taps for mana of either of that guild’s colors and can become a creature.  Until the ability that turns the Keyrune into a creature resolves, the Keyrune is colorless.

~
Cycle: Cards that “Can’t Be Countered”

The Return to Ravnica set includes a cycle of cards that can’t be countered.  Each of these rare multicolored spells with the ability to not be (conventionally) countered. A spell that can’t be countered by spells or abilities can be targeted by spells and abilities that try to counter it.

~
Returning Themes: Guilds and Guildmarks
If a card in the Return to Ravnica set is associated with a guild, it features the appropriate guildmark in the background of its text box. These guildmarks have no effect on game play.

~
Returning Mechanic: Hybrid Cards

These are cards with Hybrid mana costs.  Each hybrid mana symbol represents a cost which can be paid with one of two colors. The hybrid mana symbol can be of any combination of two colors, or any color of mana and two generic mana.

~
Returning Cycle: Ravnica “Dual Lands”
There are five nonbasic lands in the Return to Ravnica set that each have two basic land types - Blood Crypt (b/r), Hallowed Fountain (w/), Overgrown Tomb (b/g), Steam Vents (u/r), and Temple Garden (g/w).

~
Azorius Keyword Action: Detain

Reminder text on these cards are 'Until your next turn, that creature can’t attack or block and its activated abilities can’t be activated.'  Activated abilities include a colon and are written in the form “[cost]: [effect].  If a creature is already attacking or blocking when it’s detained, it won’t be removed from combat.  If a noncreature permanent is detained and later turns into a creature, it won’t be able to attack or block.

~
Izzet Keyword: Overload

Reminder text here is 'You may cast this spell for its overload cost. If you do, change its text by replacing all instances of “target” with “each.”.  If you don’t pay the overload cost of a spell, that spell will have a single target. If you do pay the overload cost, the spell won’t be 'targetting' meaning it can get around 'hexproof' critters (can't be the target of spells and abilities).

~
Rakdos Keyword: Unleash

These cards will have the text 'You may have this creature enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. It can’t block as long as it has a +1/+1 counter on it.'  You make the choice to have the creature with unleash enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter or not as it’s entering the battlefield. At that point, it’s too late for a player to respond to the creature spell by trying to counter it, for example.  Putting a +1/+1 counter on a creature with unleash that’s already blocking won’t remove it from combat. It will continue to block.

~
Golgari Keyword: Scavenge

These will have text with 'Scavenge (Cost ?) - (Cost ?, Exile this card from your graveyard: Put a number of +1/+1 counters equal to this card’s power on target creature. Scavenge only as a sorcery.)'.  Somewhat similar to the flashback mechanic.

~
Selesnya Keyword Action: Populate

The reminder text will be 'Put a token onto the battlefield that’s a copy of a creature token you control.'.  You can choose any creature token you control. If a spell or ability puts a token onto the battlefield under your control and then instructs you to populate (as Coursers’ Accord does), you may choose to copy the token you just created, or you may choose to copy another creature token you control.  If you control no creature tokens when instructed to populate, you won’t put a token onto the battlefield.

The Style at Home Limited Edition Collection

As I mentioned yesterday, I was up and out at an ungodly hour yesterday but it was all for good...I was lucky enough to be invited to the preview of Style at Home's new Limited Edition Collection...and PS, the morning did NOT disappoint.

First off, as you know, I am now contributing the magazine so I obviously think the people there are the cat's ass...it was so great to see/meet all of them in person.

On top of that, the media preview was held at the new Trump Towers and well, it's glorious...

From the lobby...

...to the most perfectly glamorous elevator doors in history...

...to the bathroom of my pregnancy induced super vivid dreams..

...to the ridiculously high 12' ceilings...also in said dreams...

...to the moldings...sweet, sweet moldings...I wanted to lick you up...

...well...it was all just heavenly.

I actually came home and jumped on MLS convinced that I could totally jam 4 kids into one room if it meant owning all of the dreamspace above (not that I could ever afford it anyway but whatevs...I was pipe dreaming) ...and then I remembered that mama needs more rooms to decorate, not less...so that plan went out the window.

I digress.

Not to be outdone by the hotel itself, the Style at Home collection was/is tres tres bien.

There's silky sheet sets and duvet covers...

{PS, note the amazeballs price}

{PSS, the pink sheets must be owned by me}

...graphic pillows...

...and gorgeous pitchers, trays and bowls..

...and towels...fluffy, fluffy ones.

All total loveliness.

And because my pictures are sort of not that awesome, here's how the professionals view the pretty...

sah-collection-tray-cake.jpg

sah-collection-bedding-bella.jpg

sah-collection-throw-pillow.jpg

sah-collection-bathroom-towels.jpg

Gorjusssssssss.

I now am the lucky owner of a set of those fluffy lavender towels and as I said earlier, simply must snap up the pink sheets...truly, they feel like zillion dollar ones...so so good.

You can purchase any of the goodies seen above HERE...but only while supplies last and once they're gone, they're gonzo so yes...the time is now my friends.

A giant thanks to everyone at Style at Home for including me in the fun yesterday- such a treat!!!

Limiting Your Medium

I started the draft for this post a while ago and never got around to posting it. Before I got sick we pumped out a lot of yard projects (photos to come!), and I had this post in the back of my mind when I made some of the plant choices. Here's the old post...

Someone commented here to remind me about Julianne Moore's lovely new landscaping of her West Village brownstone. And then I was chatting with the lovely Joslyn (who was on the SF trip last weekend) about how awesome her yard is. Simple. Artsy. Pretty easy-care. This might be the right approach for us busy ladies.

So I pulled up the article from Arch Digest on my flight home Saturday night. The photos really are cool (Her whole house has a great vibe - I've included photos from other shoots here, too).

I was super fascinated with this part of the article where Julianne mentions that she only wears and decorates with a handful of colors. She won't buy it or bring it into her home unless it's white, black, gray, green or purple. At first I was like...huh. But the idea has stayed with me all weekend.

Wasn't it was Matisse who talked about how the beauty of art comes from the struggle of an artist and his limited medium? I think the idea works in designing a home.

As a decorator who usually uses a lot of color, I think I'm making my life harder by not limited my color palette a little. When there are infinite choices, it's easier to make a misstep.

Although, let the record show, I am not usually in favor of matchy-matchy rooms and I think what we're talking about is a very different approach. The key here is to vary the shades and tones of similar colors.  Use peach and tangerine colors rather than the same bright orange on every accessory. Try mixing sky blue with cobalt. I doubt Julianne's house is filled with the exact same shade of plum over and over again. It looks like she mixes plum with dusky gray lavender and deep burgundy, which feels lovely and warm.

What are your thoughts about limiting the color palette in your home? Do you love for things to match in your home?

Kijiji Kicks Bum...

Morning Afternoon...sorry for the late post..I was out of the house at 6:30 a.m. so let's just say I didn't quite have the time or the inclination to get my blog post ass in gear.

I'll fill you in tomorrow on where I was...for now, I'll tease you with a few small glimpses of the magic...

...and add one some caveat...holy shit I love luxury.

Moving on...for now.

I was so happy to read (after yesterday's post) that you all like my new 'Project Scarlett' plan...the wallpaper was officially ordered yesterday so there's no turning back.

I also emailed the pink Craigslist sofa dude like a zillion times and finally heard back last night...it's still for sale and it's still cheap Mc cheapersons.

Great news.

Even better though, finding it actually set a Craigslist/Kijiji revival into full action speed.

I think I spent 4 hours perusing the local wares last night...and boy or boy did I find some goodies...and this is where you come in.

Tell me which ones I need.

First, Project Scarlett...as revealed yesterday, this is the plan...

As you can see, the Craigslist original sofa is on the board...

#1...

...since then, I've also found these three contenders...

#2...
(I'd paint out the wood on this one...gold or white)

 #3...
(the loveseat on the right, not the sofa...I'm hoping it comes wreathless;)  And sorry for the crap photo...darn Kijiji non-bloggers)

#4...
(I think it's my fave)

#5...
(would paint the wood gold on this one)

Kijiji: 2 matching love seats and antique love seat

Assuming all are priced the same, which basically they are...and by the same, I mean practically free...which one should I choose?

One thing to consider, the sofa will be going in a window nook which is about 9' wide...curtain panels will be hanging behind...do you prefer the idea of a smaller settee/loveseat one or a sofa?  The later all measure about 7.5'.

I also found a few chandy possibilities...

#1...$20...

Kijiji: Chandelier

#2...100 bones...

Kijiji: Chandelier for sale

#3...quite a few more dineros but still a smashing deal...and I love how the glass sort of mimics the flowers shape of the wallpaper...

#4...same price as choice #2...

Kijiji: CHANDELIER: EXQUISITE ANTIQUE LUSTER

...I definitely prefer the bottom too but I'm splurging on wallpaper and the wardrobe so...what say you?

Oh and one more thing...this piece of glamazonia was also discovered...

Kijiji: Brass & Glass Unique Coffee Table

...and I literally spent half the night trying (ever so desperately I might add) to figure out a place I could put it...PS, damn my smallish house that can't house this ridiculously awesome table...damn the fact that I already have too many brass/ceramic animals...damn, damn, damn.

So...as you can see, your help is needed.

Ta/Thanks/Gracias in advance.
