Magic 2014 Intro Pack

For today's post, we wanted to get along to a review of a Magic 2014 Intro Pack.  These preconstructed theme decks are possibly the best way to get into Magic: the Gathering if you are new to the game, or if your more seasoned, a lot of players we know battle each other with Intro Packs which makes for a lot a fun as Wizards of the Coast makes all efforts to attempt to balance the power of these decks.

MTG Realm grabbed a new Magic: the Gathering Magic 2014 core set Intro Pack and a handful of M14 booster packs for this brief unboxing and review.

We got the M14 'Lightforce' Intro Pack (white / green just happen to our fav colours) - Here's some descriptive text off the box -

With enchantments being hinted as being a thingy in 'Theros', the next set  this fall, we're certain to be well prepared to modify and take this Intro Pack to the next level.

As is our custom here at MTG Realm, we've popped over to our fav game store, OMG! Games, here in Barrie, Ontario, Canada-Land, and picked up the latest set's Fat Pack.  Fat Packs are not only rather useful for beginners getting into the game, but also a target of affection for collectors such as ourselves.  We've been collecting for quite some time and even remember a time when a short novella was included to get your vorthos on.

Dragons Maze Fat Pack

Today, before your very eyes, were gonna rip open a Dragon's Maze Fat Pack before your very eyes.  This, the latest Magic: the Gathering expansion set was just released this last weekend with a total of 156 cards.  The set contains 70 commons, 40 uncommons, 35 rares, and 11 mythic rares. All ten Ravnica Guilds are represented and as in the original Ravnica block along with their respective mechanics / keywords.  Drop by your local gamery shoppe to dip into this set - check the Wizards Locator for one near you.

For the first time ever here in Dragon's Maze, the basic land slot in booster packs will be filled with a nonbasic land instead. Different rarities will appear; Guildgates, “Shock” lands, and also a new Mythic Rare land.  Here in our 9 boosters, we were able to pick up 2 additional rare lands - very lovely!  Anywhoos, we're off to MTG Mint Card to complete some decksets we want to get for our standard constructed game.

DGM Intro Pack UnBox

We're finally back from the wilderness and have access to the interwebs, which means we have some catching up to do.  One of the first things we did when we got back to the city was drop by our local Games Store, OMG! Games, here in Barrie, Ontario and picked up some of the new Dragon's Maze cards.  We also have an order in to MTG Mint Card which should be arriving shortly, so look for our Top 5 uncommons and commons for Dragon's Maze.

As is our custom here at MTG Realm, we unbox an Intro Pack from each of the newest Magic: the Gathering set.  Here, before your very eyes is out vid and run down for the black / white 'Orzhov Power' Intro Pack -

The two booster packs that came with the Intro Pack gave us a Varolz, the Scar Stripped, and the 'fuse' rare 'Flesh / Blood'.  The three additional packs we got also rocked - Tesya, Envoy of Ghosts, a FOIL Vorel of the Hull Clade, Reap Intellect and a Trait Doctoring - not too shabby!

Orzhov Power
One thing the Orzhov know how to do is savor victory. With the "Orzhov Power" deck, let your devotees clog up the ground while bats and spirits fly overhead, leaving you to enjoy draining the life out of your foe.

Commander's Arsenal

In this, a rare weekend post to the MTG Realm blog, we wanted to share two items with you before the craziness of Gatecrash spoilers begin anew on Monday.  First up, because of all the new Magic: the Gathering news we did not have a chance to provide a big thank-you to you, the MTG Realm readership for another successful year.  We now have had the counter roll over on FIVE MILLION visitors!  We've had about 1,300 articles published since going live way back in January, 2008 and we still are fueled by the passion players have for this amazing game.

Second piece of news -  The most excellent Magic: the Gathering Christmas gift from my Brother, who is just an awesome guy and best brother one can hope for.  We died and went to N3rd heaven when we took the wrappings off a highly sought-after Commander's Arsenal.  Our brother paid a fair price for the boxed set at 3rd Universe Comics / Games in Croton-on-Hudson (just a titch north of NYC and sent it with Santa up here to our lair in Canada-Land.  You may recall back in October last year, when we first reported on this product, we did not think for a moment that we would get one of these (mostly due to the price) but here we are now and dang we are excited.

M13 Fat Pack

Happy Friday MTG peeps,

Happy Friday indeed - it is the Magic 2013 core set release today.  This means my pre-ordered cards from MTG Mint Card is already shooting toward by postal / zip code and should be in hand very shortly.  Also, as is our custom here at MTG Realm, we swung by OMG! Games the local gaming shop here in Barrie, Ontario at midnight last night / this morning and picked ourselves up a Fat Pack.

We assume you saw the weirdness - the foil Hellion Crucible in the same pack as the regular one.

We're pleased as pie to have scored 2 Rancor as well.  With the older ones we have, we are set to pimp a black / green infect deck tonight at FNM.

Speaking of FNM, the official M13 Release / Launch is this Friday 13th.  We'll be headed down to OMG!
