Faux Stone DIY Idea

ABC was a having a sale recently so I popped over to see what they had. I fell in LOVE with this coffee table from afar. The pattern on the tabletop is so pretty and so, so DIY-able (using these instructions and neutral paint colors).

Could be so good, right? Plus, if you use this IKEA coffee table as the base (and spray the legs gold like Jordan did below), you'd save yourself approximately $3700. And if you're like me, you'd tell yourself that you basically just earned thirty-seven-huno and that it's time to go shopping (starting with these). Sweet! ;)

Some Excuses and If You Want It, Black Rooster It #4

Hi all.

I have to apologize for my unplanned blogging hiatus...was totally out of my control.

Monday was spent in emergency with my little big guy...after skinning half his body on Sunday morning thanks to a new pair of 'go fasters' that went waaaaay too fast, he accidentally whipped a bucket of sand in his face and ended up with a nasty eye infection and scratched cornea...so not fun.

And on top of that, I found myself admitted at the same time with some eye craziness of my own.

I suffer from chronic migraines and they're not fun or typical...they seem more like tension headaches because I sort of have them to varying degrees all the time...except when I'm preggers...they magically disappear then, which is part of the reason I adore being knocked up...anyhoo...the stupid things came back about a week ago and I'm not a happy camper to say the least. Part of what I get is weird eye disturbances like sensitivity to light and different sized pupils...on Monday, just before taking dude to the hospital I had a crazy ass aura and it scared me half to death because I've never had one before...the only way I describe it is to say it was like my right eye on acid and decided to put on a magic drug induced light show just for fun...zig zaggy neon lights striping across my eyeball...I seriously thought I was having a stroke or something...my hypochondriac tendencies drove me into an anxiety pit that had self-diagnosed brain tumours, hemorrages, and bleeds happening at lightening speed...again...very much not fun.

Thankfully, the doctor put my mind pretty much at ease and assured me it was a classic migraine aura and not to worry.  The strange thing is though, I never get a classic migraine headache...it's more like constant face aching and my eye with the funny pupil feels strained.

Anyways...it sucks but could be worse so I'll try not to whine about it anymore...any of you peeps ever have something similar?  Safety in numbers as it were;)

So, that was Monday's excuse.

As for yesterday, I woke up to find my internet down...silly Bell disconnected our network by mistake when updating our plan so I was without computer goodness for about 24 hours...let me just say that being home all day with kids and without the internet is ICE-O-LAY-TING...

I did not enjoy it.

Thankfully, we're back in gear and just in time for Wednesday's edition of...

...and since I gave you nadda for 4 days, I figure I should probably make this one good so I'm going with this classically loved living room as inspiration...

...and here it is Black Rooster styles...

You'll notice that I made the console table woody instead of black...wanted to make sure I got that organic element in there...and for behind the settee, I used two benches that definitely have the same artisan flair as the original...also, the ceiling fixture is definitely different but gives the room the same colour tones as the original and adds the same hit of drama.

All in all, she's pretty close and proof again that most any space can be put together with one stop Black Rooster shopping.

Hotel Bedding Source

A few of you asked where I got the three-lined embroidered hotel style bedding when I posted about our bedroom here.

I found the duvet + pair of shams set at HomeGoods more than six months ago. There was only one package left when I bought mine, which I was bummed about. I totally would have bought an extra set to keep on hand. But! I stopped in to my local HomeGoods a couple days ago and they had more in stock in black and a couple other colors! I'm such a fan of this style of simple embroidered bedding and at $50 it's a steal for the look and the quality.

PS They also had this (very popular) mirror back in the store! 

Moar Modern Masters

We here at MTG Realm are once again onto the latest 'n' greatest spoilers, leaks and previews from Modern Masters but first need to let all our readers know that finally (after a very long wait), Wizards of the Coast and Doug Beyer finally have the third and last eBook installment 'Dragon's Maze: The Secretist Part 3' up on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.  We'll be giving it a read this weekend when get some down time and provide an article (no spoilers though) perhaps on Monday.  Swing on over to Doug's Tumblr, A Voice for Vorthos and drop him some comments.

Father's Day with StickyGram (with a Give Away!)

Michael has a seriously great view from his high-rise office in downtown Manhattan.

He can see both the Hudson and East rivers and he has a front row view of the Woolworth Building and the new Freedom Tower.

This year as an early Father's Day present, we wanted to do a little something fun for Michael's office. He works pretty crazy hours up here in this office, so we thought some reminders of home would be a welcome addition.

We ordered a couple sheets of StickyGrams and put them on a piece of sheet metal the girls painted with chalkboard paint. (We thought it would be fun to have a chalkboard in there too, and at least the girls have been putting it to good use when we come up to visit Michael!)

In case you haven't heard, StickyGram is a really lovely UK-based company that quickly and beautifully prints magnet versions of your Instagram images. We have a few sheets on our fridge and we get compliments on our collection all the time. I'm so glad Michael has his own little collection in his office now.

I love that the magnet board sits right next to his monitors so he can see our favorite Instagram photos all day long. No need to have a million picture frames taking up space on his desk! I'm a big fan. :)

Modern Masters Spoilers

M14 Quick Start Decks

Happy Monday MTG peeps,

We hope all of you had a great weekend, or if you are in the States, a great Memorial Day long weekend.  Game Day took place over the weekend and all we can say coming out of it is that standard constructed format is healthy and doing great.  We gamed against a variety of different decks won some, lost some but still had a great time and realize we need to pick up a few other cards from MTG Mint Card to make our sideboard a bit more robust.

Anywhoos - we have to catch up and get some more Magic: the Gathering core set news out to you.  Our Magic 2014 Spoiler List now sits at  142 of 249 cards revealed, thanks in a small part to someone breaking open some M14 Quick Start decks.  Like M13, this core set will also have a variety of 30-card preconstructed  sample decks made primarily from common and uncommon core set cards with perhaps a few Return to Ravnica cards thrown in for spice.  These decks are great for learning and come along with a nice learn to play guide.  These are typically handed out at conventions / trade shows, or provided to new players.  

Anywhoos, here's a few new cards we can expect in the M14.
