MOPR Promos

~
Happy Friday MTG Peeps,

As it is Friday, we suggest that after school / work / whatever, you collect your Magic the Gathering deck and make tracks to your local store.  Unfortunately, we won't be able to get to our local store (OMG! Games in Barrie), as we have to go to a birthday party - this sucks - and we really can't get out of it as it happens to be our birthdays we are celebrating.

Anywhoos - onto to today's post to MTG Realm.
You may recall yesterday's post which we did a round-up of new Magic the Gathering Online (MTGO) card arts with the last server update.  Well we got a few eMails from readers asking why we don't do more MTGO posts.  We would like to but our laptop was purchased waaay back in 2005 (the year Hurricane Katrina devastated the City of New Orleans) and we sink spare cash into the cardboard collection.  This still does not mean we are unable to report of cool new dvelopments happening on MTGO.  So - for the folks who told us MOAR MTGO - here's a post about MOPR . . .

~
The Magic: The Gathering Online Player Rewards program (MOPR) offers players the chance to earn digital promo cards for their monthly Magic Online activity.  These slick digital promotional cards are added directly to your Magic Online account.

For the April 2012 season, (March 28 to April 25), players who received Tier 1 and 2 cards got alternate art Time Spiral basic land cards.

For the March 2012 season, (February 29 to March 28), and  February 2012 season, (January 25 to February 29)  players who received Tier 1 and 2 cards scored alternate art Mirrodin basic land cards.
Finally - some other digital eye candy for online gamers who love Magic the Gathering . . . depending upon which level you hit you scored these MOPR promos April, March, or February respectively.

5 Things

A few things to share today.

1. I watched some David Suzuki show last night about how plants are basically smart like animals and how they pretty much scream when they are in distress...you know the lovely spell of fresh cut grass, or the delightful scent of flowers in the home...well according to recent research, that's the plant yelling for help- seriously...it was some scary/slightly creepy shit.
My half dead clementine tree and row or 'dormant' orchids is making me wince a little this morning.
I'm also a little heart heavy about all of these that I cut yesterday...before watching the show.

Do you think the flowers scream a little less loudly because they know they're being cut for a good cause i.e. making my house look prettier?

2. The vote from yesterday's fabric poll is in- with a narrow 16 to 13 victory, pink palms it is!!!!
I'm actually kind of thrilled about this and am now thinking of ordering a sample in both the pink and green...though pink is definitely my thing, I've always been crazy for cocopuffs for big green leaf prints...so, we shall see...one way or another though, palms it is!!!

Edit... I've just realized that the green palms are probably not an option...the chairs sit right beside my fig tree, which has almost identical leaves and in part because of point #1, Mr. Plant isn't going anywhere...he's alive and happy and god help me if I made him yell!

3. I had some goodies arrive yesterday.

My obsession with porcelain animals continues...meet Leonard the Lion...

...isn't he just so handsome?

The bad news is that at present, I still haven't found the perfect spot for him...he needs to be sitting on something so you can really see his face...thinking of having some sort of plinth made...in brass of course.

Leonard's date for the dance also showed up yesterday...meet Sally the Swan vase...

...she's the ying to Leonard's yang.

And PS, please stop me if I try to buy any more animals...it's starting to look like a menagerie of pretty  beasts in my living room- enough is enough as they say.

Along with the statues, these also just arrived...

...and will be finding their new home in my master...purdy.

4. My fabulous sponsor Sarah Swanson is having a 30% of SALE on her gallery wall paintings!
To celebrate her 100th sale, she's offering up her gorgeous pieces for $7...yes you read that right...these beauties...

graphic watercolor in neon pink and black

...can be yours for the cost of a sandwich.

Use code THANKYOU to receive the fabulous discount...sale will run through Sunday.

5. My Fabricadabra giveaway continues...winner will be chosen this Sunday.

Copy Cat Design: Wallpaper in the Bedroom

Colleen's back at it with another great room, recreated for less! (PS We're getting ready for some trips this summer, and I'm DYING for this orange swim suit Colleen shared this week. So cute!)

This bedroom from
Traditional Home is deceptive--at first it looks like it has a lot going on, but with the exception of statement-making wallpaper, it's a very neutral room. Let's take a closer look.

The skinny white lamp looks crisp against the cobalt wallpaper.

If you're fortunate enough to have a yard, bud vases are your very best friend for decorating. Add a few blooms from your yard and put them in every room.

This bed is such a find. Going neutral shouldn't mean boring, so pick something with interest, like tufting or a scrolling shape.

The original roman shades use a Kravet fabric, but I quite like a wide neutral stripe too.

The wallpaper is absolutely the star of the room, and the saturated color is key. This Chinoiserie pattern is an economical alternative to the original Osborne & Little.

If wallpapering isn't an option, this blue paint will look stunning with white trim.

Consider replacing the glass doors with mirrors--it's pretty and functional.

Crystal pulls will add a little sparkle to a plain white wardrobe.

The bedding repeats the blue in the embroidery, on otherwise bright white sheets.

Just a simple white table for pretty things.

I'm a tchotchke person. I need my pointless pretty objects, thus a blue ginger jar.

A feminine and neutral pillow completes the bed.

New MTGO Arts

~

Happy Thursday MTG peeps,

There is just over a week left before the Avacyn Restored spoilers / previews begin on April 9th on the Mothership which means we here at MTG Realm will be rather busy keeping up with the latest new Magic the Gathering Cards and delivering daily posts to you the reader.  On April 7th though, we should be getting an early sneak peek during the PAX East (Penny Arcard Expo) taking place in Boston.  Here's some juice from Wizards :

Come and talk with the Magic creative team and get insight the world of Magic. Get a preview of the new Avacyn Restored expansion and much more. You'll see new art, new cards, and you'll even have a chance to pick up some Magic swag!

~
Onto today's post topic titled 'New MTGO Arts'.  Magic the Gathering Online (or MTGO) is the most popular place for gamers to sling virtual MTG cards and if you have an internet connection and love this card game, chances are you are likely playing nearly every day.  Anywhoos - Forum user Niabock has giving a rundown of new card art files with the last update.  It is thought to be new promos or perhaps product (Cube, etc.) and not likely (but not impossible) to see cardboard print as a promo or an upcoming set.  Let's have a looky-see -

The arts are all very cool and most may be reprints as some suggest the following names : Badlands, Bayou, Savannah, Taiga, Volcanic Island, Plateau, Scrubland, Tropical Island, Tundra, Karakas, Control Magic, Reliquary Tower, Hydroblast, Pyroblast, Rampant Growth, Zuran Orb, Incinerate, etc.

Fabric Windfall and a Vote

Morning.

I've discovered a little 're-invented' fabric heaven on Spoonflower the other day and feel like it's my duty to share...PS...I know some of you readers are morally against such budget friendly interpretations but don't hate the messenger/budget friendly seeker as they say;)

Say hello to...

This spoonflower seller finds inspiration from some of my/our favourite fabric designs and interprets them in her own way...meaning for mere pennies of the original and in a bevie of fabulous colourways...

These prints ring it at a whopping $18/yard...word.

Now the fun part.

I want to re-upholster my poodle chairs and well, these beauts are in my budget.

I had originally thought of using B&F Les Touches but...$250ish/yard vs $18/yard...I think you know which one wins;)

I've found two patterns I like and want to put it to a vote.

You tell me which of these two choices you prefer, and I'll do it.

Choice A:

Choice B:

You've seen my living room before and since it's going to appear in glossy one of these days {wooooooooot,} I can't post more pictures but I know you know what we're working with here.

Here's a few bullet point reminders:

1. Black and white Ikea rug
2. Charcoal couch
3. Salt and pepper hide
4. Cream/black settee with grey/white pillows
5. Cream and pink curtain panels
6. Pink art...black/white frames
7. 2 cream chairs
8. Brass barfed up everwhere
9. KW agate pillows in pink and coral
10.  Pink walls

So basically, the foundation is black/white/cream and all the extra stuff is pink.

What say you then?

Chairs in pink palms or chairs in black and white dots?

You can also pick neither if you're so inclined;)

Reader DIY: Metallic Wall Stripes

One of the best parts of writing this blog for me is getting to share ideas I might never get to use myself, but that some of you might get to try. I LOVE getting emails with photos of your interpretations!!

Caroline wrote in to share a couple photos of a bookshelf she fancied up using this post as her inspiration. Caroline said:

"We're renting a quirky midcentury ranch with plenty of oddities, one of which is a badly-proportioned shelving built-in in my daughter's nursery (it used to be the room's closet). I needed to liven up the space and your stripes were a perfect idea. To make the project really easy, I sourced 3-inch wide metallic gold tape online (they have various colors and sizes). A little measuring and taping later, the job was done! The only drawback is that the metallic surface does reflect the old wall's flaws, but overall it is extremely stunning, adds dimension and brightens the space."

Such a beautiful nursery, right? And I'm loving the tape source Caroline found. The two-inch tape is about $30 for 72 yards and the three-inch is $40. That's pretty cheap wallpaper!

April FNM

~
Happy Wednesday MTG peeps,

Some interesting news via WoTC Monty today on the Mothership. Apparently there will be something rather special coming to a Friday Night Magic event at your local store on Friday 6th April, 2012. This evening we plan to be at our local gaming store OMG! Games & Collectibles in Barrie, Ontario, Canada-Land to score this piece of cardboard coolness..

What's the swag ? In addition to the normal FNM promo card (distributed to winners / however your tournament organiser runs things), all participants should be receiving the very first doulbe-faced token to see print.

These non-foil cards feature a 1/1 Human on one side, and a 2/2 Wolf on the other side. The Token illustrations featured on both sides are by artist Lars Grant-West. The FNM promo card for April by-the-way is a very cool alternate art Dismember (from New Phyrexia) by Jason Felix.

Normally, token cards in your Magic the Gathering booster pack contains the token on one side and an advertisement of sorts on the other side, such as this one here featuring a Shadowmoor Wolf token - also by Lars Grant-West.

Some players / gamers are already speculating that this two-sided token may have something to do with the upcoming set release and are already filling the forums with Avacyn Restored speculation. Our thinking is that this card was set to be printed as swag or booster insert when Innistrad was first released but Wizards of the Coast put it on the back burner, Dark Ascension was released and then a staffer realised that better late than never.

The timing however is rather interesting as well. In Monty's brief article, he speaks onto the importance of the moon in the plane of Innistrad's flavour. It so happens that Friday 6th April we will have a Full Moon (IRL). Villagers on Innistrad believe the moon to be a 'vast desert made of grains of pure silver', with magical / mythical properties. We can expect to see a continuation of this line of flavour as seen from the Avacyn Restored spoilers (card names only so far) - Moonsilver Spear - prerelease card and Sliverblade Paladin (buy-a-box promo).

~
Lastly,

The folks over at MTG Mint Card still has a very limited number of oversized foil Commander / EDH Generals. If you have not scored one of these to pimp out your build, we suggest you make tracks before they are all gone.
