Pauper EDH

~
Happy Friday MTG peeps,

Latter on this month, our local gaming store (OMG! Games in Barrie, Ontario) will be holding a Pauper Commander event, and we are very excited to build a deck to game with.  What the heck is that you say?  No worries - today's post will cover that off, so grab a seat and read on.

Pauper format, just like the name suggests, indicates something not at all expensive to acquire in which this constructed variant format prohibits rare and mythic rare cards.  In Pauper Commander / Elder Dragon Highlander, all rare and mythic rare cards are prohibited, which means your General (which is usally a 'legendary' creature) and the other 99 singleton cards in your stack are all non-rares.  This really allows a lot of players get into the format who may otherwise be concerned about the cost of their build.  In the tournament at OMG! Games latter this month, your General is to be an Uncommon creature with the remaining cards in your build to be pegged at common rarity.  Here's a linky off to the rules if you have further interest.
Anywhoos - to be honest, we have pretty much every uncommon and common card from every set since Shards of Alara, (thanks to great deals had at MTG Mint Card) and we're having a ton of fun just deciding on our General.  Do we go with a mono-colored creature or a multicolored one?  How difficult will it be to fix mana with a multi-colored build?  What sort of aggressive profile should we look for in our General?  All very cool problems to solve.

We are already thinking about a General which may deliver cheap tokens like Imperious Perfect or Wolf-Skull Shaman.  Then again, perhaps something we can build upon like Invisible Stalker which is hexproof and cannot be blocked - then again, there's not a lot of really good common blue auras so we would have to rely on colorless artifacts to help pump the stalker.  For reference, here's a very handy link to some popular existing Pauper General database on MTGSally.

Righto - your turn.  What Uncommon creature do you think might be the perfect General in your pauper EDH build?  Drop a comment below!
