Project Kitchen Gorgeous...Hood

Just when you thought Project Kitchen Gorgeous was completeski's...I've got an update:)

I've been living in and LOVING every inch of my gorgeous kitchen...it's absolutely, positively my dream come to life...adore, adore.

Except for one little thing...the stove hood.

Don't get me wrong...it's a perfectly lovely stainless steel number...but...there's just something about it that I'm not completely in love with and since every other inch is exactly as I hoped it would be, hubs and I have agreed to switch it out.

So...after discussing ideas with Meredith, we've come up with a few options

Now...here's where you come in.

I've got quotes on three possibilities and let's just say some are less than others...and, I'm not entirely sure I know exactly what I want.

Of course, I've gathered a ton of inspiration.

My dream of all dream hoods would be this one...

Best hood I've ever seen and the best kitchen I've ever seen in print- adore!

...but it's far too rich for my blood.

I also adore this little beauty...

hood heaven

...but again, even in white (rather than the metal,) it's still about double what our budget is.

It's still on the 'maybe' list but...I'm trying to decide if I love it enough to stretch the spending.

So let's count that as choice #1.

Choice numero deux is one of Meredith's designs...

...the beading on the bottom would echo the detail on my Barbara Berry desk in the foyer.

It would be finished like my cupboards in white and would go to the ceiling.

This is the most economically friendly option.

And then there's number 3...Meredith and I both noticed this at the Interior Design Show and I snapped a photo on my iphone to show hubby...

...his response killed me....'but there's not brass/gold in our house'....hard not to laugh...men...not exactly observant;)

Anyhoo...this hood isn't brass but a painted finish on wood....it would be about the same price as #1.

I love the shape and the brassy goodness.

So...what say you?

Which is your favourite?

Keep in mind that below the hood is a solid piece of marble....on either side are open shelves.

Would you spend double to get option #1 or #3, or do you prefer the less fussy #2?

VERY much looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

It Happened....

Well boys and girls, it's official...#projectkitchengorgeous has been shot.

And what a shoot it was.

Thanks to the amazing team at Style at Home magazine, my beloved kitchen actually found a way to get pinker and prettier...I actually recall saying this mid-shoot to Meredith, as I literally tried to pick my jaw up off the floor...incredible.

The inspiring styling was done by the incredibly talented, Tara Ballantyne...this girl literally blew me away.

I knew I adored her the second she walked in with every pink flower known to man, a palate of homemade cupcakes, buckets of shiny accessories and a bevvy of pastel confectioneries...almost more pretty than I could comprehend.

Watching the photographer, Donna Griffith actually take the pictures, was also a true delight...such an experience to witness a true artist at work.

Meredith and I practically hung off of the computer screen, as her photographs appeared one by one...the attention to even the smallest detail, and the patience with which she waited for the absolute perfect shot...nothing to say but brilliant.

I literally can not wait for you all to see how Donna's amazing talent brought our little kitchen project life...her photographs honestly elevated an already pretty amazing space, to a place that I think, truly deserves it's spot in the spotlight.

A huge thank you as well to Ann Marie Favot, design editor extraordinaire...her vision of each shot and the story that will be #pkg, truly made the day one I will never forget.

I feel beyond honoured that our little project will grace the pages of one of my absolute favourite design magazines...and whispers...it might even be lucky enough to grace the COVER..holy pancakes!

Style at Home...I thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart.

And of course, I have to say a very special thanks to the incredible Meredith Heron.

It's hard for me to believe that it has only been mere months since we met over Twitter, as I desperately reached out for help with my kitchen.

I feel so infinitely blessed to have had the chance to collaborate, share, and observe such a talent...Meredith took my vision and elevated it to a place I never knew it could go.

The word designer seems wholly inadequate in her case...Meredith truly is a maker of dreams and I count myself VERY lucky to have been her client...and even more so to be now count us as friends.

I'd be remiss if I didn't also send a huge warm hug to the suppliers and trades that provided us with such amazingly beautiful things to work with...Electrolux, Brizo, Griffin and Wong, Weaver and Loom....thank you, thank you.

And lastly, by certainly not least, a love filled barrel of gratitude to all of you...the incredible support you've all had for out little kitchen project has meant the absolute world to Meredith and I.

Our palpable excitement about sharing #PKG is in huge part, because of you....thank you for being so infinitely patient, for always encouraging and supporting, and for sharing this amazing journey with us...love you to the moon for it.

I've also VERY excited to share that photographs of the rest of my house might also be be coming to a certain fabulous magazine near you soon....

stay tuned.

Oh and speaking of tuning, I promised a little TV reminder.

My little small screen debut is today on CBC (check listings in the US for network/time...I've heard it shows on the Live Well Network?) at 2pm EST....eek!!!

Hearts, kisses, thanks and piles gratitude.

House Updates {PKG and my Little Dude's Room}

Some rather glorious things have happened around chez Bijou these past few days.

For one, Meredith {who PS, continues to amaze me with her glorious talent on an hourly basis} came by on Friday to deliver some art fantastic to #PKG.

I give you Griffin and Wong hand painted silk chinoiserie fabulousity...

And because I definitely owe you some kitchen photos, a little sneak peek of the gorgeous panels all hung up...

I know, I know...a total tease.

I'm sorry.

More soon- promise, promise.

In the meantime, I have to show you some more of the brilliance that is Griffin and Wong's portfolio.

And a few installations...PS, I'd give up most things for an entire room plastered in this beautiousness...

Heaven.

Now, on to the second happy house addition.

I'd like to officially announce that my 3 year old now has a bed.

And it's glorious.

I want it for myself actually...it's a cocoon.

I bought the bed from my favourite local antique shop...Turner Chapel Antiques.

My friends think it's funny that when I tell my kids we're going out, the first thing they ask is if we're going to the antique place...perhaps this happens because I've been frequenting this shop nirvana about twice a week for the past few months.
It's just REALLY fabulous.

I bought the bed for $300...yes you heard that right.
It's a 200 year old solid pine bed from Germany...with all it's chips, and nicks and imperfection...it's my definition of perfection.

And the best part, it has those amazingly giant side rails that mean my 3 year old isn't rolling out of it anytime soon.

As well, it's almost a standard twin (just a few inches short,) which is almost impossible to find in an antique bed...all we had to do was have a piece of MDF cut to size for the matress to sit on...we bought an IKEA foam matress that was able to squish in more than a standard one could and voila...bed heaven.

As you can see, I also added Instagram to the mix over the weekend...can you save LOVE IT!!!

Just to finish off this very long post...a few pictures of our roadtrip to teenager concert/my parents house...
 Road.

Scarlett and Lola.

Malcolm {with his new 'boy' haircut that I'm not at all sure about- so sad that all his baby curls are gone...combine this with us taking apart his crib last night...crying mommy} and teenager Natasha hiding in the third row.

Moi.

Fun picture taking.

And with that, I'm off.

I have a little DIY project {that PS, I'm not doing myself} happening today.

It involves a trip to a IKEA and then a visit to Beresford Inc...more on that soon.

Kisses etc.

And speaking of things I love....

I heart Kelly Wearstler...in a large way.

I also enjoy her house.

More specifically, this foyer...

The good news is that it's mine.

Well not exactly, but thanks to the genius that is Meredith Heron, a version of this foyer bliss will be gracing my kitchen any day now.

See...

Yup...that's painted silk people.

And as we speak, it's being whipped up into curtains for my kitchen.

Meredith made them.

Can you believe this?

I can't...well actually I can.

As I said, she's kind of brill.

You can read more about how she worked this magic over at Sashay.

Oh and just so you know for absolutely...my kitchen is officially being published!!!!

Cue my back flips/happy dances.

Project Kitchen Gorgeous is coming soon to an amazing magazine near you.

Stay tuned.

And stay safe.

Happy Spooky Day!
