Wish List Wednesday (on Thursday Again) - Changes Around My House

This day off thing is getting to be a bit of a problem...need to get my act together;)

In any case, I missed this yesterday...

...so here she goes.

If you read this seemingly controversial article (PS, I'll never understand why/how people can get their shorts so in a knot about such things...you'll know what I'm talking about if you read the HUGE debate that ensued in the comment section- some people need to drink more wine I think:) about masculine and feminine decorating on Apartment Therapy...

...you might have noticed that my living room (as shot by Donna Griffith for Style at Home) was the first image in their bank of 'feminine' looks...

...and I can definitely see why it was used to provide girly styling examples.

Thing is, as of late, I've really been wanting to tone down all the pretty as it were...I've been craving some hard ugly to balance it all out.

And to that end, I've been making some small changes here and there.

First, I switched out the brass ceiling fixture, which I LOVE so much more in its new home in the basement...

 ...for my long beloved Mouille (in knock off form...mama has kids to feed;)...

I've also been moving pillows around and swapped out all the pink for these tiger beauties from 219...

And on the settee, I removed the chevron like ones (now in the master) and put my single tuxedo lover...

Aside from that, I've also been de-accessorizing...I'm wanting to have pieces really shine in a sculptural way so I guess I'm sort of playing with a concept I never thought I would...'less is more' as it were...

Stay tuned for a bigger room re-arrange that will see some pieces go and maybe, just maybe some new pieces come in...but in a 'less stuff' way;)

I'd LOVE to start with these goodies...

PS...all of these goodies are from an ah-maaazing Chicago store my ah-maaazing #projectvicarious client sent my way...I was literally up pouring over their site at 3am (email me for the source link if you're interested...I'm not quite ready to give it away yet- not until I maybe purchase those things above;)  

Also on the list, an ugly cocktail table of some variety...having a hard time with that one.

I like these JA numbers (PS, I find he's KILLING it lately- want alot of things on that site)...

...but none are quite right.

I also found this guy on 1st Dibs...

...and am mulling on that.

In the little things department, and again on the JA front, I love these stuffed dudes...

Also, I did this light from BR...

So yeah...I need to win the lottery- clearly.

Weekend Finds, I Need Advice and a Small Update of #projectfeminegrit

Morning friends.

It's raining here, for the 3rd day in a row and you know what, I'm pretty pleased about it...the drizzle means my newly planted grass/front garden needs way less maintenance on my end to survive and since I've got so many things happening inside the house, this is a good thing.

As for my weekend, husband, the kids and I spent both days browsing our favourite shops for inspiration re: new house and the quick/mini update I hope to get done on this place.

Here's what caught my eye...

1. These Bernhardt tables...219 carries them and I've long admired but seeing them in person made the whole lusting thing reach another level - the lacquer and brass together is just so damn pretty- they glisten and almost sparkle in real life.

2. Hubs and I have a co-favourite store here in Toronto called Patina...they have such a great mix of mid-century pieces that the man loves and the more glamalicious stuff I like...we both hearted this swing lamp major styles...such a statement piece.

3. You'd be hard pressed to find a lucite table I didn't like- this one is really fabulous because of it's stacked base.

3. This burled wood dining table...I mean need I say anything about this?

4. This little marble and lacquer table just stole my heart...small, dainty and so versatile- would look great in any setting.

5. We also stopped by another retail fave, The Door Store...though I always want most of everything in the place, on this trip, I was most drawn to their selection of pillars... I have this weird love/hate thing with these things...in new build/subdivision houses in my hood, they randomly stick them everywhere and I LOATHE them...but when I see salvage antique ones, I get all hot and bothered like.

6.  We also made a stop at Elte to see some pretty new stuff.  The kids were in need of a snack/pick me up at this point so we stopped by their new cafe...the steel glass divider windows have me thinking of doing something very similar in #projectdreamhouse

7. I ordered a set of busts for #projectbeverly hills and spotted them in person...LOVE seeing things I've sourced online in the flesh...especially when they turn out to be even prettier than you expected...

8. On Sunday, we headed downtown again and stopped at Morba to pick up my new Mouille ceiling light for the living room...pictures of that coming soon...for now, here's two versions of the same floor lamp that I'm considering adding to our place...

And now on to the advice part, I'm considering re-upholstering my ottoman...

...and have this crazy idea to do it in something like this...

...so in love with the vibrant blue, when mixed with black and gold.

Remember that it has to work with some pink, though there will be less of that once I'm done this little mini makeover.

And while we're on fabric, I'm thinking this sort of business for my poodle chairs...

We shall see.

Next piece of advice...what is the first thing that pops into mind when you see this table...

I'm waffling on it like mad...one minute I think I can't possibly live without it and the next minute I find it too much.

Thoughts on it all?

Moving on but still on the topic of black,  just got back some update photos re: #projectfemininegrit...

As per our plans, walls are now gloriously black a la BM Black Iron...ceiling is a lovely greyish lavender by BM called Wild Aster...

...also note that beautious chandy...it's a vintage Murano beauty done in lavender glass...purdy, purdy.

I literally can't wait to see the completed 'afters'...stay tuned.

And I think that's about it for now.

I've got a few big link overs that I also want to do either today or tomorrow so stay tuned...I might be doing some double post action today.

A New Series...Wish List Wednesday

I know what you're thinking...PS Christine, it's Thursday.

I'm aware and behind a day, thanks to my ever continuing computer saga/funk.

After coffee-gate, husband came home with a new machine- works great on most fronts but unfortunately, it seems to have a very hard time staying connected to the internet- anyone ever have this problemo before? If so, please share fix...'tis driving me batcrazy.

So, I'm posting what I had thought about on Wednesday today...forgive me.

I've been really loving putting together style boards on the new Polyvore 'Home' site (PS, if you are already on there, follow me up buttercup...I'll of course do the same in kind) ...uber fun.

I thought it might be fun to share those pieces that are occupying the wish list chunk section of my brain at the moment...each week that is...in moodboard form...

As of October 3rd, these are the things I want hard...

And because of some big news...I might actually have to pull the trigger on some of these bad boys...turns out that my house is getting photographed for two online magazines and my next segment of
Steven and Chris...in the next few weeks...cue stomach pits....and excited face.

All of this means that I have a big old excuse to get some shit done...which in turn means, I can shop a wee bit- time for the old credit card has to be dusted off (not that it ever gets that dusty;)

I'd love to hear which of the above pieces you think I need to make everything delightalicious.

Let's start top left...these Chalk White sconces are a must for me and I'd love to see them hung in the same room as those beautious Maitland Smith emerald pedestals...they are just sooooooo delightful.  I spoke yesterday about that anewall mural- can't wait to get it up in Scarlett's new room avec #projectdreamhouse...because it's for the new place though, it isn't on the 'right now' list.  The Mouille like ceiling fixture, however, is happening now- ordered it yesterday for the living room- the brass fixture that is there now will move to the basement and for the foyer, I'm planning on snapping up the Trillion masterpiece that has been on my list or literally years.  In the artwork department, I'd love a supersized modern portrait like this one, along with the neon sign from my new favourite shop 47 Park Avenue.  And as for the furniture list, I'm hoping to add a hooded/dome chair thanks to Black Rooster, a Bernhardt black and gold chest from 219, this Made Goods resin coffee table, an armless sofa like this fuchsia number, the utterly gorgeous Dynasty screen (another long time wish list dweller,) a pair of black leather chairs (already purchased...hoping these will go in the new office at #projectdreamhouse) and finally, that unbelievable console...on that front, my contractor/carpenter extraordinaire is going to build a version just for me...I was incredibly inspired by Jessica's IKEA hack version and have been wanting to create one of my ownzies forever- sadly though, I could never ever DIY it on my own- amazed by Jessica's mad skills on that front...so for me, contractor it is.  Oh and the pillow...loving this creamy white fulled lady.

And just so you don't think I'm crazy for buying stuff for a house we're leaving, anything purchased (including light fixtures,) will most definitely be making the trip down the street with us.
